Descriptions:

Ministry in the Nursery – Michele Tuttle

The nursery is often a family’s first experience with your church—let’s make it a great one! In this workshop, we’ll explore how the vital role the nursery plays in ministering to both children and their families. From the moment a child is dropped off to the moment they’re picked up, we have the opportunity to provide a safe, welcoming, and spiritually nurturing environment. Topics we’ll cover include safety, scheduling, volunteer tips, supporting new families, and how to minister to both children and parents with excellence and care.

Ministry to Toddlers – Kelly Koreck

Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Although ministering to toddlers is not for the faint of heart, there are so many blessings and so much joy in serving these little ones. Their hearts are open, curious, and ready to receive the love of Christ. In this session we’ll talk about the logistics of working in the toddler room along with meaningful ways to share God’s love and truth with them.

Ministry to 4 & 5-Year-Olds – Nelly Brown

Our goal is to come alongside families to help lay a strong foundation of truth from God’s Word in the hearts of 4 and 5-year-olds. In this workshop, we’ll explore practical teaching tools, memorizing verses, the value of worship, the necessity of prayer, and effective ways to handle behavioral challenges. With an experiential approach, we’ll share tips, insights, and encouragement to help you minister to these young hearts with intention and joy.

Ministry to 1st & 2nd Graders - Jill Ciseck

As God Sees Them – Ministering to the Heart, Mind, and Soul of a Child

Planting seeds in a child’s life and ministering to them takes patience, wisdom, love, and faithfulness. Psalm 139:14 reminds us that every child is fearfully and wonderfully made, and as believers, we are called to care for each one individually, starting with their heart, soul, and mind. This workshop will explore how to better understand and reach 6–8-year-olds by looking at their developmental stages, sensory processing, academic differences, emotional needs, family dynamics, and more. We’ll also discuss teaching styles, biblical truths, prayer, and how to communicate with families effectively. Through

Ministry to 3rd & 4th Graders – Mariza McFarland

This fun and practical workshop will equip you with creative and effective ways to engage 3rd–4th graders—an energetic and unique “in-between” age group. We’ll explore how to teach the Bible in ways that match their developmental stage, what motivates them as learners, and what ministry time with this age looks like here at Calvary Philly. Come ready to gain insight, share ideas, and be inspired to reach these young hearts with purpose and joy!

Ministry to 5th & 6th Graders – Mike Hess

Before we can truly teach or reach a child, we must first love them—just as Christ first loved us (1 John 4:19). In this workshop, we’ll walk through how to structure a Bible lesson for 5th and 6th graders and explore a three-part approach to ministry: loving the children with Christ-like care, teaching them God’s Word with clarity and purpose, and reaching every heart—including those who seem uninterested or difficult to engage. Come be encouraged and equipped to lead this next generation with truth, grace, and love.

Using Drama in Ministry – Chris Lieberman

Drama is a powerful tool that can help bring the stories of Scripture to life for the kids. Whether you are a small church with limited resources, or you are trying to start a full drama ministry, this workshop will teach you how to find and train volunteers, acquire props, create characters, plan a skit, and more. We will also look at both how to do drama in a formal, “staged” context, and how to use it in the classroom with your students.

More Than a Song - Worship in Children’s Ministry – Pastor Chris Clark

We were made to worship, and kids are no exception! God is seeking those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Come learn practical ways to lead kids in worship in your ministry, in a way that isn’t just fun, but awe inspiring and Christ exalting. Whether you have access to musicians or not, we will discuss important considerations regarding song choice, format, expectations for volunteers, etc.

How to Lead a Child to Christ – Pastor Chris Clark

Jesus instructed, “Let the little children come to Me!” How do we help? How might we hinder? In this workshop, we will discuss some helps and hinderances in leading kids to Christ, and learn practical ways and useful tools to use as you share the Gospel in class and equip kids to live out the great commission.

Safeguarding Your Ministry – Pastor Chris Clark

Providing a safe space and protecting the children in our care comes before anything else we do in ministry. The Bible reminds us that danger can come from both outside and within the church. Proverbs 27:12 states that a wise man sees danger and takes precautions. It’s our responsibility to be well-informed, prepared, and on guard. In this workshop, we’ll explore practical steps to create and maintain a safe environment for our kids. You’ll learn policies, best practices, and proactive measures that help build a culture of trust, accountability, and safety for your ministry.

Classroom Structure and Management – Pastor Chris Clark

When Paul said, “Let all things be done decently and in order,” there was no way he had children’s ministry on his mind… right?! I can’t speak for Paul, but I’m sure it was on the Lord’s mind when he moved Paul to write it. Structure and discipline in children’s ministry are not about behavior modification or rigid rule-following—it’s about heart transformation and discipleship, and it’s something we can all grow in. In this practical, biblically-grounded workshop, we’ll explore how to serve children with grace, structure, and purpose—modeling godly behavior, setting clear expectations, and lovingly correcting when needed. Whether you’re a new volunteer or a seasoned leader, this workshop will help you move towards a ministry culture where kids are constantly pointed to Jesus—even in moments of correction.

Leading a Ministry – Pastor Chris Clark

Leadership in ministry isn’t easy. Whether you’re a pastor, director, team leader, or serve in any other capacity, leadership comes with unique challenges—discouragement, burnout, doubt, and isolation can creep in and cause us to lose sight of Who called us and why. This workshop is designed to help you recalibrate your heart and perspective through the lens of God’s Word. Together, we’ll explore what Scripture says about leadership, reminding ourselves that we are followers before we are leaders—sheep before shepherds. My prayer is that you’ll walk away with a renewed understanding of biblical leadership and practical tools to lead well in the ministry God has entrusted to you. He is faithful to equip those He calls.

Partnering with Families – Pastor Chris Clark

Parents hold the primary responsibility for their child’s spiritual formation. It turns out that parents are the greatest influence in a child’s life — and that’s by God’s design! If we fail to engage and equip the whole family, we miss a big opportunity for discipleship. This workshop offers practical strategies for partnering with parents. In an age of information overload, we can help families by creating and/or pointing them toward biblically rich resources that help them raise their children in the wisdom and instruction of the Lord.

Puppetry – Pat Zab & Earl Crompton

Children of all ages are enthralled with Puppets. Puppets can help bring Bible stories to life! During this workshop, we’ll give you the foundations for starting your own puppet ministry or enhancing your existing puppet ministry. We will share practical ways to use Puppets during a Sunday school program or within your individual classroom. We’ll demonstrate good puppeteering techniques, as well as show you what poor techniques would look like. We’ll present a short puppet skit to you and provide you with names of companies where you can get puppets, ready-made skits, a puppet stage, and puppet accessories. Our puppet pals are looking forward to meeting you!

Creating Good Soil – Pastor Dave Miller

Drawing from the Parable of the Sower, this workshop explores practical classroom strategies for cultivating receptive hearts in both students and parents. We will discuss how to prepare an environment where the Word of God can take root and flourish.

Foundations Curriculum – Pastor Dave Miller

A workshop on the value of intentionally shaping curriculum through careful attention to scope and sequence. This workshop will walk through the thought process behind the development of our in-house Foundations curriculum, available for free online for anyone to use. It will offer insight into how thoughtful planning creates a strong framework for student growth both inside and outside of the Church.

Ministry to Kids in Today’s Culture – Pastor Brian Weed

Our current cultural climate presents a set of acute challenges to Christianity, and therefore to ministry to young people in our churches. Ideas that affect how we understand humanity, new technologies, and changing social structures in our communities, all these things add to the ever-present challenges related to growing up in any time and place. How do we minister to young people in the face of these challenges? Topics covered will include common errors in Sunday school classes and practical strategies for making the time spent in Children’s Ministry count for young people and teachers alike.

Finding Good Resources – Daniel Unger

God’s Word is our primary source for knowing God and growing in our faith – but we can also be equipped, encouraged and inspired by other resources. Good books that reflect biblical truth can stir our hearts and help our children and families connect with the bigger picture of God’s work in the world. C.S. Lewis captured this beautifully in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, when Aslan tells Lucy, “You must learn to know me by another name… that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.” As a child, that quote sparked a desire in me to know the true Jesus – and that’s the power of a good resource! But not all resources are helpful. Some may water down or distort the truth, and it’s vital that we use discernment. In this workshop, we’ll talk about why reading matters, how to find books and tools that are worth your time, and how to wisely navigate the growing world of available resources.

How to Study the Bible (Part 1 & Part 2) - Jim Gibbs

As representatives of Christ to the world around us, it is our responsibility to be well versed in the Word of God and be able to confidently communicate to others what it says, what it means and how it applies to life. Paul instructs Timothy “Be diligent to present yourself approved of God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15). In this two-part interactive workshop you will learn the practical steps of inductive Bible study and then study a passage together. You do not need any previous experience to benefit from this, just a willing heart. Whether you are brand new to studying the bible or have been at it for years, there will be something in these workshops for you.

How to Understand God’s Will – Pastor Brian Weed

Finding God’s will for our lives is a concern every Christian has. One of the best ways to begin finding God’s will for our lives is to understand God’s will. What does “God’s will” mean? What has the Bible told us about God’s will? And how can Scripture help us find God’s will for our lives? We’ll look at several ways the Bible equips us to know and do what pleases the Lord.

Faithfully Balancing Work, Life, Family, and Ministry – Pastor Trevor Steenbakkers

Life gets busy—fast! Juggling all our responsibilities can leave us feeling stretched too thin or causing us to distance ourselves from those we care for most. Out of a desire to be good stewards of all that the Lord is calling us to, this workshop offers practical tools and biblical encouragement for balancing work, family, and ministry. As Warren Wiersbe said, “The best thing you can do for your family is build a strong church to attend, and the best thing you can do for your church is build a strong family.”

The Heart of a Servant – Kevin Hopkins

A Biblical glance into the heart of the greatest Servant, Jesus, molding our lives in accordance with the model that He exemplified through His service to others. “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).

Spiritual Warfare & Perseverance in Ministry – Pastor Tim Patrick

As we give ourselves to the Lord’s work in us and through us, we are instructed not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices. A war is raging, but we are not ill-equipped. Putting on the whole armor of God do not war according to the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. This workshop will acknowledge the reality of spiritual warfare in ministry, explore how God equips us, and give encouragement and hope in persevering and walking worthy of our calling.

The Work of the Holy Spirit – Chris Cannatella

Discover the foundational biblical truths about the Holy Spirit and how He works in the church. Through an overview of scripture, you will learn to recognize and embrace His special roles in your personal life and ministry. This session concludes with a guide to resources for ongoing, in-depth study.

Your Christian Witness: Sharing a Clear Message – Chris Cannatella

Learn to effectively share the plan of salvation from a biblical perspective. This workshop equips Christian workers to communicate the gospel clearly, especially to those who have been influenced by “works-based” messages. You will gain practical tools and learn how the power of the Holy Spirit can help you boldly share your faith.

Sports Ministry – Chris Lieberman

Sports provides an open door for the Gospel in the lives of kids and their families. In this workshop, we will look at the heart behind sports ministry, the types of sports outreaches you can do, and how to present the Gospel and make disciples using sports. We will also cover topics such as balancing fun, player development, and competition, and address issues of gender in sports. Whether you want to run a youth sports league, host a summer camp, or just do a simple park outreach, we want to get you excited and equipped to use sports for God’s glory.

After School Bible Clubs – Kevin Clark

In today’s culture, students in K-12 public education are exposed to and taught things such as: You and the whole world are here by accident, God isn’t real, you are just an animal (more evolved than other animals, but an animal all the same), gender is based on how you feel, marriage can look many different ways, and more. What if there was an open door in public schools for students to hear the powerful liberating truth of the Gospel as well? The door may be more open than you think. In this workshop you will hear the testimony of how God has worked through a Bible club at a public elementary charter school. You will also learn practical steps for starting and running a Bible club in a public school setting—offering students the life-changing message of Jesus in a place where it’s needed most.

Raising Godly Boys: The Vision & Heart of Trail Life USA – Jack Shipe

Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered discipleship program for boys that combines outdoor adventure with spiritual growth, character development, and leadership training. In this workshop, you’ll learn the heart and vision behind Trail Life and how it equips the local

Helping Kids Think Globally – Pastor Steve Reeves

Children’s ministry has long played a powerful role in missions—through prayer, writing letters, raising support, and more. These simple acts have often planted seeds that grew into lifelong callings to the mission field. And God is still using these opportunities today to inspire young hearts toward a life of service for His glory. In this workshop, we’ll explore how to cultivate a global mindset in children by sharing God’s heart for the nations, looking at the history of missions and how God has used young people, and offering practical ways to integrate missions into your ministry. We’ll also look at resources you can use and how children’s ministry can even be used on mission trips.

Discipling Boys – Pastor Mark Abrams

In a culture reaping the fruit of fatherless homes and a shortage of mature, godly men, boys desperately need strong, Christ-like men to walk alongside them. In this workshop you will learn the importance of one-on-one discipleship for boys sixteen and under – and how intentional, relational discipleship can help shape their faith, character, and future. You’ll gain insight into the unique challenges boys face today, what biblical discipleship looks like in practice, and how you can step into this vital role. Come be equipped and encouraged to help raise up the next generation of young men who follow Jesus with conviction and courage.

Disability Ministry 101 – Joni & Friends

This will be an overview of what Disability Ministry is, the Biblical view of disability and the following: What is The Need – The Call – The Next Steps. This workshop is an overview of the way the Bethesda curriculum is developed, and how to teach/disciple those with special needs in our church communities.
